Californium

Californium was discovered in 1950 by S.G. Thompson, K. Street, A. Ghiorso and Glenn Seaborg in Berkeley, California. It was named after the state in which it was first made. This is a radioactive material made in nuclear reactors from plutonium. Only a couple of milligrams are produced each year, and this is used in cancer research.
