This element was discovered by Hoffman and his co-workers in 1994 in Darmstadt, in Germany. The element was obviously named after the town in which it was made. Only a few atoms have ever been made by fusing nickel and lead atoms together in a heavy ion accelerator. The image is an abstract atomic model.
