This element was discovered in 1958 by A. Ghiorso and co-workers in Berkely, California. The element is named after Alred Nobel, who discovered TNT and started the fund for the Nobel prize from its sales. This radioactive metal was created by bombarding Californium with Carbon. Only a few atoms have been made and the half-life is only 58 minutes.
