Nuclear Chemistry - CHM131 Project

Introduction

When most people hear the word "Nuclear", they have images in their heads of huge mushroom clouds of fire, and mass destruction.

There are however constructive uses of Nuclear Energy, and not just the destructive power of Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs.

The aim of this site is to enlighten people of the chemistry behind Nuclear Power, but also the potential dangers and environmental impacts

Nuclear can be defined as:

"Using or derived from the energy of atomic nuclei"
or
"Of or relating to atomic nuclei".

This site will focus on two main topics relating to Nuclear Chemistry.

Primarily nuclear power; How it works, what it uses to produce power and what is done with the harmful biproducts.
Secondly the Chemistry behind the reactions.
