Since the birth of the internal combustion engine in 1886 there has been a need for fuel to power it. Traditionally, the fuel used for internal combustion engines has been made up of hydrocarbons and is responsible for the business success of many major oil companies. More recently however, some of the world's largest countries are concerned as to the amount of non-renewable fuels. It is said by some that we will run out of our oil supplies in the next fifty years. This has spurred these oil companies into researching other fuels and technologies that will be more efficient and abundant so that we don't run out!

This website explores the new fuels that are currently in development and gives a lot of the chemistry involved with making and exploring new methods to power our engines of the future.
