Equations to calculate frequency, wavenumber, photon energy, and effective nuclear charge;

  1. v=c landerThis equation relate frequency wavelength and the speed of light, once the frequency has been calculated this can then be substitued into equation 3) to find the photon energy and energy of light.

  2. v= 1 lander this equation relates waelength frequency and speed of light to wavenumber which is in cm, whereas wavelength is measured in metres

  3. e=hv this equation uses plank's constant h and frequency to calculate the energy of a photon of light.

  4. v=rydberg This equation allows the calculation of the wavenumber from Rydberg's constant RH and n which is equal to the ....... The rydberg constant and any one of the n's (n1 or n2)can be calculated if the other variables are known.

  5. Zeff This equation allows you to calculate the effective nuclear charge of a nucleus from Z the atomic number and S which is calculated from 'Slaters Rule'
